We are interested in using the Sonlight Curriculum, If we do, can we use it all the way through to year 12?
What about being accepted into university? ~ Dellys D’Alton, Cape Town
Answer to Sonlight Curriculum in South Africa
We, the authors of the three Footprints On Our Land programmes as well as many of our South African homeschool clients enjoy using a combination of Sonlight and Footprints so that our children have a good understanding of the nations of world and the missions view that Sonlight brings, but also an appreciation of our heritage, culture and current society and its issues here at home in South Africa.
Most of us combine the two curricula something like the list below. Bear in mind that most of us have multiple ages so the grade levels and ages don’t always work out exactly as below, but this is a recommended sequence to follow!
Grade R – Little Footprints
Grade 1 – Sonlight Core B
Grade 2 – Sonlight Core C
Grade 3-4 – Footprints On Our Land for about 18 months (to 2 years)
Grade 4-5 – Sonlight Core D/E one year programme for 18 months
Grade 6 – Sonlight Core F
Grade 7 – Sonlight Core G (or G&H one year programme)
Grade 8 – Footprints into the 21st Century
Grade 9 – Sonlight Core H ( or Core 200 or 300)
Grades 10 -12 Cambridge International Examinations or other High School Homeschool options that offer a school leaving certificate or facilitate acceptance to university.
