Josephine Troost (15) from Stanford in the Western Cape participated in an international essay writing competition and ranked among the top four entries from South Africa.
The topic for the Living Rainforest’s 2013 International Schools Essay Competition was: “Who is responsible are we ready to take responsibility for the future of our planet?”.
Josephine received an honourable mention for her essay in the age 11 to 17 category and she has been invited to participate in the southern hemisphere school debate and prize giving ceremony in the Seychelles from 1 to 5 July 2013.
According to Sheraine van Wyk, Overberg Eco-Schools coordinator for Whale Coast Conservation, the essay competition gave school children a chance to share their views on the rights and responsibilities of different people worldwide in creating a sustainable future.
“There were 831 entries from around the world and the competition was stiff.” said Van Wyk.
Josephine’s achievement was also reported in the Hermanus Times on 10 May 2013.
