Clay Cafe in Hout Bay
Children can choose from a large selection of clay blanks (mugs, plates, statuettes, teapots, pencil holders etc). They can then choose 3 colors of paint which can be applied using a variety of techniques. It is a great outing: artistic and it’s part of a ceramic factory that you can walk through with prior arrangement to see kilns etc. Only catch is that the kids have to wait couple weeks before they can bring their artwork home as it needs to be glazed and baked.
Cape Ostrich Farm
Set in beautiful countryside, this farm has informative guided tours where one can see the Ostrich pairs in their camps and see the eggs in the incubators.
The children are guided through several nurseries where they can see ostrich chicks at various stages of growth. A small hands on museum allows them to experience an ostrich skeleton, leather, feathers and eggs.
At the shop, they can see the many beautiful products provided by ostriches. Ostrich food is available for sale if the children would like to feed the Ostriches.
We visited the farm in March 2009 and the cost was R30,00 per adult and R10,00 per child. This included a free cup of tea or coffee on the verandah after the guided tour.
