You want to know how to start homeschooling and you probably have dozens of questions that need answers.
We can help you. We’ve been homeschooling for almost 20 years and advising others for almost as long.
The first thing a parent needs to do is to start unlearning all the ideas you have about how children learn. Our generation has been indoctrinated by the system in which we were raised and the classroom model of learning does not work well in the homeschool scenario.
You do not have to teach your children and you do not need a highly structured programme dictating how your spend your days.
To help you on this journey of learning more about how children learn best, we have two parent books that are a must-read for all South African homeschoolers who want to know how to start homeschooling:
Homeschooling the Primary Years is a comprehensive guide to starting homeschooling with young children.
Homeschooling High School will give you all the information you need about matric options and alternatives and how to navigate a path through the high school years and beyond.
We also strongly recommend that you follow the ten steps for new or prospective homeschoolers outline in our article “First Aid” for New Homeschoolers so that you can avoid making the common mistakes that so many new homeschoolers make!
Remember to sign up for our free monthly newsletter, Reaching Higher using the form on the right hand margin of every page of our site. We will send you tips and advice to encourage on this journey into the unknown!
