Wendy’s eldest daughter, Jessica Young completed her homeschool education by writing the Cambridge International Examinations AS Levels in 2013. This is the equivalent of a Grade 12.
Jessica achieved a couple of A symbols – a noteable achievement!
She says she intends following in the footsteps of Jane Austen so that she can “live by her pen” and she is well on her way!
She has been writing for about as long as I (Shirley) have known her – since the age of eight. She started her writing career by composing one-page stories for a horse-crazy friend of hers. By the age of 13, she had completed and self-published her first novel, titled The Black Stallion: Zambia.
I read it and was impressed. It didn’t feel like I was reading a novel written by a child. To dream up a plot, develop characters and write like that is a gift! Jessica has subsequently written more horse stories and combined them into a trilogy: Ace’s Trilogy: Home. Although she wrote a number of other novels by the time she was 14, she struggled to get them published.
At about age 15, Jessica created a website, www.learn-about-horses.com where she shared her love of horses.
More recently, Jessica started a blog aimed at encouraging other young Christian girls and women in their walk with the Lord and into womanhood.
She has also had several articles published in magazines, namely Seventeen and HQ Pony, and created another website, this time about History Lesson Plans.
She writes. She writes extremely well. She writes at www.missjesswrites.com.
And she doesn’t ONLY write – Jessica is a well-balanced all round SA girl who loves motorbikes, rugby, cars, downhill mountain biking, photography (view at https://www.flickr.com/photos/118652198@N08/) , piano, dancing and horses. She has been involved in raising awareness for various charities, such as the Caeli Campaign, the Cart Horse Society and a fundraiser to help feral cats at Franskraal. In her spare time she enjoys watching movies, reading and social networking.
