Marlene Fourie was rider of the year and rider with most kilometers in 2017.
She was captain of the North West team in 120km and came 6th. She was also captain of the SA Barberian team in the 160km and came 2nd and got best conditioned junior horse.
She is riding on the 29th of August in Walvisbay.
She also sings. She entered SATCH and went through to provincial round to be held at the end of September 2018.
Lucinda Fourie also does endurance horse racing. She was in the 120km North West Team and in the 160km Barbarian team. She is in the SANESA NSW team that rides in October 2018.
They both started at the age of 5. Marlene achieved her ERASA (Endurance Ride Association of South Africa) National Colours and permanent number last year. To achieve this she had to qualify for the team and ride a top 10 place.
As a homeschooling family, we start early everyday by feeding our horses. We train them for an hour, groom them and feed them in the evening again.
After training we start with “school” work until we are finished. We jog ever afternoon after 17h00 to stay fit for races. Races are over weekends. We compete in 80km, 120km and 160km. Our National ride is 206km over 3 days.
Marlene and Lucinda have friends all over SA. You have to work hard and not be scared of falling, literally and figuratively. There are so many opportunities for homeschoolers. They learn to plan and make the best of their time and opportunities that they have.
