In 2011 a number of homeschoolers from the Western Cape entered the ATKV Afrikaans Olympiad, for mother tongue as well as first additional language learners. They performed very well.
The junior olympiad is open to Grades 7-9, while the senior olympiad is for Grades 10-12.
There was a total of 1 556 mother tongue entrants with an average score of 63%. The average score for the 1569 additional language learners was 64%.
Of the homeschoolers who entered, Stephan Koetsier was ranked in the top 20 participants in the Western Cape, and nationally, both he and Nicole Coetzee ranked in the first 100 participants.
The other homeschool entrants also achieved very good results as shown below.
